SKA DATE 16/12/23
That’s right; the cats have been successfully herded into the Six String Studio in
Beerwah under the guidance of master recording engineer, Angus Woodhead. The new song
‘Saturday Night’ has been polished into another SCRB ‘ear candy’ dance floor hit and the
rhythm section is tuned and ready to launch.
It is 9a.m. and there is already talk of espresso martinis and cold cider as the weather turns monsoonal outside the cool, air conditioned studio. A few adjustments later and with the singer safely ensconced in his dunny-sized booth, Gus (keyboards) Govi (drummer) Tony (guitar) and Steve (bass) lay down some typically brilliant takes while Mick (vocals) sings up a storm; and what a storm it was!
With the new original song and two covers in the can in record time, thunder bolts and lightning, very very frightening blacks out the studio. Panic ensues briefly as the studio owner Terry decides to pull the plug until the danger passes. Fair enough!!
The horn section arrives amidst the downpour and we suddenly have twelve sweaty
Rude Boys (and Girls) and two sound engineers squashed into the blacked-out studio. A few
warm up drinks and the magic continues with Phil (tenor sax) Mika and Annie (alto sax) Sam
and Jimmy (trumpet), Simon (baritone sax) and Wayne (trombone). Gus is up front conducting
and our resident photographer Kim is snapping off some action shots. (Click HERE to check out the photos!) Late in the afternoon the Rude Boys are spent and retire home to a nice cup of tea and a lie down; well, some of them did.
Fast forward to Thursday 21/12/23 and all three songs have been mastered and are
ready for release. Keep your ears peeled for Rude Boy action near you. Check the website and
Facebook page for new songs and 2024 gigs!
