Sunny Coast Rude Boys – Tour Diary: The Miami Marketta,'Big Night Out' Finale!

You know when you finish a tour and everyone’s equal parts triumphant and slightly… feral? That was us rolling into Miami Marketta on the Gold Coast for the final stop. If you’ve never been there, imagine a groovy night market collided with a music venue, a bar, and a food festival… then someone turned the vibes up to eleven and said, “Yeah, that’ll do.”

It’s one of those joints where anything could happen. And with us involved, it usually does.

The night kicked off with HaydenGoSeek, who strolled on stage and warmed the room up nicely. Then came the ever-funky Cheap Fakes — absolute Gold Coast royalty. For them it was basically a home game, and they played like it. Phenomenal musicianship, tight as a drum, and smoother than a fresh pint. They warmed up the stage so well we nearly felt guilty stomping on it afterwards.

Nearly.

Then the Sunny Coast Rude Boys piled on.

Now if you’ve never seen eleven musicians try to enter a stage at once, it’s a bit like watching a clown car at the circus. Out we came — six-piece horn section blazing, rhythm section locked in, and enough energy to power a small suburb. We had 90 minutes to cram in originals, Two Tone classics, crowd banter, and the occasional questionable dance move.

And here’s the twist: 10pm curfew.

Ten.

PM.

For an eleven-piece ska band that likes a chat.

That’s tight.

That’s “skip a story, drop a joke, and blow the trumpet faster” tight. But we managed it.

Just.

The Marketta crew were legends — staff, sound, lights, all absolutely on point. And we had our own touring wizard behind the desk too. Joel, our sound tech, once again calmly wrangled eleven noisy musicians into something resembling music. Not easy when half the band thinks turning up louder will solve everything. Great job as always mate.

The crowd were brilliant — dancing, shouting, singing along… and most importantly, buying merch like absolute champions.

We’re nearly out of T-shirts (which means we clearly didn’t print enough… classic band maths).

But the real surprise?

Our Sunny Coast Rude Boys knickers!

Yes. That’s a real thing.

And yes… people bought nearly all of them.

👉 Have a look at the pants HERE. Because nothing says ska quite like slightly cheeky underwear with a horn section logo on it!

New Music Incoming!!

We’ve also just released our new single “Throw Me A Rope.”

It’s a cracking collaboration written with Nicky Bomba (Melbourne Ska Orchestra) and Hayden Andrews (Cheap Fakes). Proper ska pedigree there — a bit of Melbourne, a bit of the Gold Coast, and our usual Sunshine Coast chaos.

And it comes with a completely bonkers AI music video. It’s colourful, slightly unhinged, and looks like someone spiked a pirate movie with a psychedelic fruit smoothie.

You should absolutely watch it.

What’s Next?

Next stop for the Rude Boys is PUNKFEST at The Brightside in Fortitude Valley – Sat 11 April.

Now… here’s the funny bit.

We’re on last.

So at some point that evening, the crowd will go from three-chord chaos and mosh pits… to an eleven-piece ska band with a horn section and suspiciously danceable rhythms.

How will that go?

Honestly… we have no idea.

But we’re bringing brass, grooves, and dodgy dance moves. So we’ll see who survives.

The Next Chapter

Later this year we’re heading back into the studio to cook up more NewTone / Two Tone bangers.

There’ll be:

  • brand new original tunes

  • collaborations with some ridiculously talented people

  • and a few ska'd-up classics done the Sunny Coast Rude Boys way!

Basically: brass, beats, mischief, and a bit of heart.

Because that’s the thing about this band.

It’s loud.It’s chaotic.It’s occasionally ridiculous.

But when you’re on stage looking out at a room full of people dancing and singing back at you… you realise it’s also something pretty special. We get to do that most weekends, spread a bit of happiness & feel it all back. Good Vibes.

Anyway — enough sentimentality.

See you at the next gig.

Bring your dancing shoes.
