THE RUDE BOYS GO COUNTRY?… WELL.....SORT OF.
Well, what a bloody few weeks for the Sunny Coast Rude Boys.
First up — SOLD OUT at The Royal Hotel, Nundah, Brisbane!
Two hours of ska, Two-Tone, sweat, brass, dancing and questionable decisions.
The audience were fucking brilliant, as always. You lot keep turning up, singing along and generally making us feel like we know what we’re doing.
We even sneaked a few brand-new songs into the set.
Always a risky move.
You write a song thinking “This is fucking brilliant.”
Then you play it live and immediately think:
“Oh Christ… what have I done?”
Thankfully, they went down a treat.
Then came GYMPIE MUSTER.
Now picture this…
60,000 country music fans over 5 days
Thousands of cowboy hats.
And Sunny Coast Rude Boys standing on a big stage about to unleash a load of surf-ska and Two-Tone.
We looked like we’d accidentally walked into the wrong festival. Looked like we'd taken a wrong turn in Camden & ended up in Tamworth.
So we had a cunning plan. Setlist manipulation....
Our ska version of Paul Kelly’s Dumb Things early on.
A few Rude Boys songs slipped in under the radar.
Then our ska version of Men At Work's 'Land Down Under' ... didge n' all!
And suddenly…
THE COWBOYS WERE SKANKING.
What a fantastic festival. Lovely people, brilliantly organised and an absolute privilege to be part of it.
Next stop…
WALLABY CREEK FESTIVAL
Far North Queensland.
Fly to Cairns. Drive four hours north. Then drive a bit further into Woop Woop!!
Playing alongside Mama Kin Spender, The Bennies, The Strides, The Go Set and a load of other brilliant acts.
Apparently Wallaby Creek Festival is pretty wild.
Which is good.
Because there are 12 Rude Boys travelling together in a tiny van for five days.
What could possibly go wrong?
Actually… don’t answer that.
Then we drive back to Cairns and play Tanks Arts Centre — a unique venue inside converted WWII oil-storage tanks.
So that’s happening.
12 Rude Boys. Tropical Queensland. An old oil tank.
What could possibly go wrong?
FRIDAY THE 13TH — SKA PUNKALOOZA
Then we’ve got a HUGE night at The Brightside, Brisbane on Friday 13 November.
Three bands.
Chamberlane kicking things off in proper punk style.
Sunny Coast Rude Boys in the middle.
Then Melbourne Celtic-punk legends The Go Set headlining.
And the whole thing is Freddy Krueger / Friday the 13th themed.
So if you bought a Halloween costume two weeks earlier and thought:
“I’m never wearing this fucking thing again…”
WRONG.
Wear it again.
There’s a $200 CASH PRIZE for best dressed.
Freddy. Dracula. Zombie. Ska punk psychopath.
Whatever.
Just turn up looking like you’ve made some very poor life choices.
