SUNNY COAST RUDE BOYS – AUGUST UPDATE (or: How to Tour the UK, Come Home, and Keep Skanking Like You Never Left)!

We’re back from our super successful UK tour – still buzzing, still a bit jet-lagged, and still finding stray airline peanuts in our sax cases. No rest for the skanky though – we hit the ground running with a massive gig at Burleigh Town Hotel on July 26th. Gold Coast Crew… you absolute legends! You danced, you skanked, you sweated buckets – we love you for it!

It’s August already?!  Two weeks from now we’re hitting the studio to record five brand new tracks. Yes, five. Because clearly we don’t believe in sleeping.

First out of the gate will be an original co-written by the ridiculously talented Hayden Andrews (Cheap Fakes) and our own frontman Mick, with a riff & arrangement from our alto sax queen Sive. Imagine: a big bold 2Tone banger telling the story of old-school Rude Boy skinheads – Fred Perry shirts, pork pie hats, blurry tattoos (or “blurry tatts” if you’ve been on the dancefloor too long). We’ve been slipping this one into live sets already and… let’s just say the dancefloor doesn’t survive unscathed.

Coming Up Next

• Sat 6 Sept – Bulcock Street Music Festival – We’re on with a heap of heavy rock legends, including, Drunk Mums, ChamberLane and local rock ‘n’ roll heroes Wave Raiders. We’ll be the smiling ska misfits in a sea of guitar crunch. Will the hard rock crowd love our happy, lovey-dovey tunes? Or will they just stare while we bounce around in pork pies and braces? Either way, it’s gonna be fun!

• Sat 27 Sept - Koala Tavern - Redland Bay (Brisbane)

• Fri 3 Oct – HOTA, Gold Coast – We’re running a 2-hour brass workshop for kids. We’ll teach them the fine art of ska, then unleash them onstage with us later in the set. Imagine 20 tiny trumpets blowing your socks off. Chaos. Joy. Possibly earplugs.

• Sat 4 Oct – New wee festival near Gympie – Bring your dancing shoes and your festival hat.

• Sat 11 Oct – Kings Beach Tavern, Caloundra – Sunshine, surf, and ska.

• Sat 18 Oct – Royal Hotel, Nundah (Brisbane) – Our Brisbane skank-off.
